Class project for ARCH 497A: BIM Studio, Spring 2010
Description of Course
Studio based course utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) to facilitate collaborative design within interdisciplinary teams.
Project Overview
Teams were given general information that would normally be readily available to members of a building design team including: a detailed building program concerning the clients needs, projects goals, and existing conditions and location of the site. Each team of six consists of an Architecture Student, Landscape Architecture Student, and a student from each option of Architectural Engineering including Structural, Mechanical, Lighting/Electrical, and Construction Management. The overall goal of each team was to develop a well coordinated and efficient building design of the new Park Avenue Child Care resulting in a project well within the design development phase and be worthy of moving into construction documents. However, the empasis of the class was on the design phase of the building process. The teams were encouraged to embrace collaborative design through the use of IPD and to discover a coordinated and conflict free building through the use of BIM related programs.
